STATION 1 – GETTING TO KNOW YOU (10 minutes)
Have 2 children stand at the front and have a conversation about what they want to be when they grow up.
Then have 2 more at the front and have a conversation about what they are going to do after church.
Then 2 more about people they don’t get to see often and miss (ie. grandparents or friends who have moved away)
TEACHER: We had time to talk to friends about what we want to be when we grow
up and what we are going to do after church and about family and friends we miss, today we are going to learn how to talk to God about our dreams wants and things that make us sad.
STATION 2 – THE BIBLE (5-7 minutes)
TEACHER: We were reading in the Book of ACTS last week and we are going to continue reading there today. The book of ACTS tells us what Jesus wants us to do. Today we are going to learn that Jesus wants us to pray before everything we do.
READ: ACTS 1 : 12-26
TEACHER: Did you notice in that verse how it said that all the friends were together and they prayed CONSTANTLY? Constantly means “a lot!!!”
What do you think prayer is? Let kids give some ideas
TEACHER Praying is what you did earlier; it is having a conversation but with
God instead of your friends.
You can’t see him but you can talk to him anytime you want to. Your friends you can only talk to when you see them or call them on the phone but God is always right there waiting for us to talk to Him.
STATION 3 – ACTIVITY (10 minutes)
I will supply a big picture of a clock on the wall
TEACHER: Ask the kids what things they can pray for (ie. having a good day, help studying for a spelling test or being angry because a friend hurt them.)
Write these on a piece of paper and tape it to different times on the clock to show the kids they can pray anytime of the day and God will listen.
STATION 4 – SKIT (5 minutes)
TEACHER: Now we are going to see a little drama about prayer
Teacher, have 3 volunteers WHO CAN READ help you. If you are short of readers, then have the adults do the skit.
3 kids at the park 2 playing 1 sitting still at the edge praying
2 kids walk up to the 3rd kid and start asking
kid 1 –WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
kid 3 –I AM PRAYING
kid 2 –WHY
kid 3 –BECAUSE MY GRANDPA FELL AND BROKE HIS HIP. HE IS IN
THE HOSPITAL AND I WANT HIM TO GET WELL SOON
kid 1 –WHAT IS PRAYING GOING TO DO?
kid 3 –PRAYING IS GOING TO LET GOD KNOW THAT I AM ASKING
FOR HIS HELP AND I KNOW GOD LISTENS TO OUR PRAYERS
kid 2 –DON’T YOU HAVE TO BE IN CHURCH TO PRAY?
kid 3 — NO YOU CAN PRAY ANYWHERE. WE PRAY IN THE CAR ON
THE WAY TO SCHOOL THAT GOD IS WITH US AND WE HAVE A
GOOD DAY.
2 WEEKS LATER
kid 2 –walks up to kid 3 –HEY HOW DID THOSE PRAYERS WORK FOR
YOU?
kid 3 –GREAT MY GRANDPA IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL BUT HE IS
STARTING TO WALK AROUND WITH SOME HELP AND WILL GET TO GO HOME SOON. WHY?
kid 2 –BECAUSE I AM HAVING SOME TROUBLE IN SCHOOL AND I
WANT TO LEARN HOW TO PRAY…THIS BOY IS BEING A BULLY
AND I WANT HIM TO STOP.
kid 3– I CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO PRAY ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS
TALK TO GOD
kid 2 — BUT HOW? WHAT DO I SAY? HOW DO I START? WILL HE
LISTEN?
kid 3 — JUST TALK LIKE YOU WERE TALKING TO ME. GOD IS THE
BEST FRIEND YOU CAN HAVE HE ALWAYS LISTENS.
kid 2 — OK I WILL TRY …….DEAR GOD I NEED YOUR HELP I WANT
THIS BOY TO STOP HURTING ME THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.
AMEN
kid 3 — THAT WAS PERFECT NOW LETS GO PLAY– GOD KEEP US
SAFE WHILE WE PLAY AND BE WITH US IN OUR NEW
FRIENDSHIP. PLEASE HELP US TO HAVE FUN AND THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO OUR PRAYERS. AMEN
STATION 5 – SMALL GROUPS (10 minutes)
PART A
We are going to learn some simple prayers. Break into smaller groups and teach by saying and repeating one or both of these prayers
SMALL GORUP LEADER: Some prayers are prayers that people have written like
this one…
A) NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP
I PRAY THE LORD MY SOUL TO KEEP
IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE
I PRAY THE LORD MY SOUL TO TAKE
GOD BLESS FAMILY AND FRIENDS
AMEN
SMALL GROUP LEADER: And this prayer is a prayer that Jesus taught His friends
B) OUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN
MAY YOUR HOLY NAME BE HONOURED
MAY YOUR KINGDOM COME MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE
ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN
GIVE US TODAY THE FOOD WE NEED
AND FORGIVE US THE WRONGS THAT WE HAVE DONE
AS WE FORGIVE THE WRONGS THAT OTHERS HAVE DONE TO US
DO NOT BRING US TO HARD TESTING
BUT KEEP US SAFE FROM THE EVIL ONE
FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM POWER AND GLORY
FOREVER AND EVER
AMEN
NOW….discuss what you could pray if
–your best friend was moving away
–someone you know is in the hospital
–you just had your birthday party and you want to thank God for all
your friends and presents
STATION 6
TEACHER : God asks us to pray before everything we do this includes eating. We sometimes call it grace but it is praying and thanking God for the food He has provided. So before we have a snack we need to thank God for this food.
– then bless the food before offering the kids a bag of cheerios
CLOSE teacher closes in prayer
